Testing cable runs before the camera goes up

A test monitor can also be used earlier in the install process — before any cameras are even mounted — to verify cable runs from end to end.

Connect a camera to the test monitor at one end of a cable run and connect power at the other. If you get a clean image, the cable is good. Do this on all runs before you start mounting cameras and you'll catch installation faults — poor terminations, accidentally nicked cables, mis-wired connectors — while they're still easy to fix rather than after the cameras are up and brackets are tightened.
